“There’s something about the way the law desensitises you to brutality… How does that affect you as a person? What is it like when you go home?”

Roger Michell is the director of Nina Raine’s acclaimed new play about love, the law, truth and consent. Here Roger talks about directing for film and theatre, and what he and the Consent cast learnt when they watched real barristers at work.

Roger Michell’s films include Notting Hill, Enduring Love and Hyde Park on Hudson. His stage work includes My Night With Reg, Fairwell to the Theatre and Nina Raine’s previous hit, Tribes.

Consent is a co-production by Out of Joint and the National Theatre. It is playing to 17 May at the National Theatre, London.
